Kielcza, Village in Opole Voivodeship, Poland
Kielcza is a village in Gmina Zawadzkie, in the Silesian part of Opole Voivodeship, Poland, set among fields and patches of forest. It belongs to Strzelce County and sits in a flat to gently rolling rural landscape.
The village is recorded as the birthplace of Wincenty, a 13th-century Polish canon who composed the medieval hymn Gaude Mater Polonia. Over the following centuries, the area changed hands between Polish and German rule, a history that left traces still visible in the region's mixed cultural identity.
Saint Bartholomew Church stands at the center of the village and is where local religious celebrations and community gatherings take place. During feast days, the church square fills with residents who keep old local customs alive.
The village is easiest to reach by car, as public transport in rural parts of this region tends to be limited. The nearby town of Zawadzkie is the closest place to find shops and basic services.
A wooden house built in 1831 still stands in the village and gives a rare glimpse into how rural homes were constructed in this part of Silesia. Not far from it, a memorial recalls those who died in the Silesian Uprising, a reminder that this quiet countryside was once a place of conflict.
