Witnica, City in Lubusz Voivodeship, Poland
Witnica is a town in the Lubusz Voivodeship of western Poland, located close to the German border. It sits on flat land along the Warta River valley and functions as the main center of Gmina Witnica, with a town hall, residential streets, and local commerce.
Witnica was granted a town charter in 1261 and passed through the hands of Brandenburg, Prussia, and Germany over the following centuries. After 1945 it came under Polish administration, its population was replaced, and it took on its current name and identity.
Witnica has a military museum that displays weapons and equipment from different periods of the Polish armed forces. Walking through it gives a concrete sense of how soldiers lived and fought across several centuries.
Witnica lies along a main road connecting Gorzów Wielkopolski to the German border, making it easy to reach by car or regional bus. Once in town, the central area is compact and most points of interest can be covered on foot.
The Witnica Brewery was founded in 1848, making it one of the oldest working breweries in the region. What makes this unusual is that it survived the total population change of 1945 and continued operating under new Polish management without interruption.
