Katowice International Airport

Katowice Airport sits in Pyrzowice within the Upper Silesian region and serves as a key gateway for international and domestic travel. Its terminal buildings process daily passengers arriving from numerous European cities as well as selected destinations beyond the continent.

The facility was built in the early 1940s as a military airfield and remained under Soviet administration following the end of the war. Civil scheduled services began in the mid-1960s, transforming the former military base into a public transport hub.

The airport received its name from Wojciech Korfanty, a significant political figure who contributed to Polish independence in the early twentieth century.

A direct train connection brings travelers to the center of Katowice and complements the regular bus routes serving the region. For drivers, several parking zones at varying distances from the terminal allow for extended stays.

The terminal handles a large share of charter operations in the country, leading to a noticeable increase in passenger activity during summer months. The facility also plays an important role in cargo operations, ranking second nationwide for air freight shipments.
