Mieszko Oak, Natural monument in Ursynów, Poland
The Mieszko Oak is a massive pedunculate oak tree reaching several meters in height with a thick trunk and extended branches spreading across the area. Its broad crown creates a commanding natural presence that dominates the surrounding space.
This oak tree is approximately 600 years old and ranks among the oldest living specimens in the Masovian region, having witnessed numerous significant events throughout Polish history. Its long existence reflects the many transformations the country has undergone over the centuries.
The tree takes its name from Mieszko I, the first documented ruler of Poland, linking visitors to a symbol deeply rooted in Polish national identity. Local people view this living oak as a connection to their country's foundational past.
The site offers open access to view the tree from multiple angles and fully appreciate its scale and form. Visitors should be mindful that the area is protected and respectful behavior around the specimen is essential for its ongoing care.
A fire incident in June 2023 caused damage to the tree, prompting extensive examination and conservation work to assess its structural stability. This intensive care demonstrates the high level of attention devoted to protecting this historic natural specimen.
