Gmina Borzęcin, Rural municipality in Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Poland.
Gmina Borzęcin is a rural municipality in Lesser Poland Voivodeship located in the Uszwica river valley. The area divides into two parts known as Upper and Lower Borzęcin, with fields and villages spread across the landscape.
The settlement was founded in 1364 by Bishop Bodzanta Jankowski under Magdeburg law and first recorded in documents in 1475. These founding centuries shaped its legal and social structures.
The municipality connects to agricultural traditions and village life, with festivals and gatherings marking the seasons. Visitors can observe these local rhythms and practices at village centers and community events.
The area lies roughly 55 kilometers east of Kraków and offers basic administrative services. The best time to visit is outside autumn and winter when country roads are easier to travel.
The playwright Sławomir Mrożek was born here in 1930 and went on to gain international recognition. His works carry the perspective of someone who grew up in this rural setting.
