Rejowiec, Municipal town in Chełm County, Poland
Rejowiec is a municipality and city in Chełm County in eastern Poland, located between Chełm and Lublin in a flat agricultural region. It functions as an administrative center for the surrounding rural communities and serves as a local marketplace.
The town received charter rights from King Sigismund I in 1547, granting permission for two annual markets and tax relief for ten years. It lost its city status following the January Uprising in 1863 and regained these rights only in 2017.
The town's religious heritage includes a former Calvinist college and multiple religious transformations, from Protestant foundations to Catholic predominance over centuries.
The town center contains shops, schools, and administrative buildings that are easy to navigate on foot without detailed planning. Basic accommodations and services are available for visitors who want to explore the local surroundings.
During the 19th and early 20th centuries, the town was known for its manufacturing activities, particularly copper casting and glass production, which temporarily shaped its local economy. Traces of this industrial period remain visible in some of the older buildings and structures around the community.
