Basilica on the Holy Mountain

The Basilica on the Holy Mountain is a baroque structure with a prominent dome surrounded by four towers that dominate the hilltop. Its interior cupola features elaborate polychrome paintings from the 18th century, and the building forms part of a larger monastery complex.

Construction began in 1675 under the patronage of Adam Konarzewski and was completed in 1698, drawing architectural inspiration from Venice. Italian builders brought this southern European style to the region during the late baroque period.

The basilica serves as a center for daily worship and holds a venerated image of the Mother of God from the 16th century, painted by an anonymous local artist. This artwork draws visitors who come to pray and contemplate within its walls.

The site is accessible by foot with various pathways leading up the hill at different gradients. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes since the ground is uneven and can become slippery in wet conditions.

This structure represents the only example of pure Italian baroque architecture in Poland and was designed by Venetian architects. These builders brought their southern construction traditions to this northern region.
