Rezerwat przyrody Okopy Konfederackie
The Rezerwat przyrody Okopy Konfederackie is a nature reserve near Muszynka situated on a hillside in the Leluchow mountain range. The area is surrounded by young beech forest mixed with birches and spruces, and still shows the outlines of triangular defensive earthworks from the late 1700s.
The site became a protected nature reserve in 1963 to preserve the remnants of fortifications built by the Bar Confederates in the 1770s. These earthen defenses were hastily constructed during a period of armed conflict that affected the broader region.
The name reflects the earthen fortifications that defenders built in the 18th century as military structures. Today, visitors experience this place as a connection to the region's past, walking quietly through the preserved remains and understanding how people once fought to protect their lands.
The reserve is accessible via a yellow hiking trail that connects Muszynka with other forest areas and is clearly marked. The terrain is hilly with uneven paths, so sturdy footwear and some stamina for walking uphill are recommended.
The original triangular shape of the fortifications remains visible and shows how strategically the layout was designed. The deep ditch that once served as a defensive line is still a distinct scar in the landscape and draws the eye of every visitor.
