Nature reserve Pełcznica, Nature reserve in Gmina Wejherowo and Gmina Szemud, Poland
Nature reserve Pełcznica spans three connected lakes - Pałsznik, Wygoda, and Krypko - surrounded by marshes, peat bogs, and mixed forests across the border of two municipalities. The landscape is crisscrossed by marked walking and cycling paths, with the red PTTK Wejherowo Trail running along the eastern edge.
The protected area was established in 1999 as a relatively modest reserve of around 57 hectares and later expanded through conservation efforts. This growth reflects increasing recognition of how these lake and wetland ecosystems support regional biodiversity.
The reserve is part of the Tri-City Landscape Park system and serves as a refuge for specialized dragonfly species and water birds that depend on wetland habitats. Walking through the area, you notice how the lakes and marshes support wildlife that has become rare elsewhere in the region.
Exploring the reserve is easiest on foot or by bicycle using the clearly marked hiking and cycling trails that wind through the protected area. The red-marked path provides clear navigation and connects different parts of the landscape.
The reserve contains Isoetes echinospora, a rare aquatic plant species found in only a handful of places across Poland and requiring very specific conditions to survive. This botanical rarity makes the area especially important for botanists and conservationists.
