Torsan, Former ice rink in Sanok, Poland
Torsan was an ice rink in Sanok featuring a steel-frame building with artificial ice maintained year-round. The facility had seating for around 4000 spectators arranged on movable bleachers that allowed different event configurations.
The rink opened in November 1968 as the first artificial ice facility in Rzeszow Province and quickly became a hub for winter sports events. It closed in March 2006 following the final hockey match after nearly 40 years of operation.
The venue hosted numerous sporting events, including Polish Junior Championships and national winter competitions, serving as a central point for local sports development.
The site sits on Mickiewicza Street near the city park and now functions as a municipal parking lot. You can walk around the area to see where the building once stood.
Local residents built the rink through voluntary effort and community initiative with engineers Franciszek Olszewski and J. Wijowski overseeing the design. This grassroots construction approach made the facility deeply connected to the town and its people.
