Jan Kochanowski Theatre, Professional dramatic theatre in Opole, Poland
The Jan Kochanowski Theatre is a performing arts venue in central Opole with four separate stages and nearly one thousand seats spread across its multiple halls. Each auditorium varies in size and design, allowing the theatre to present different types of productions simultaneously.
The theatre was founded in 1945 as the Juliusz Slowacki Municipal Theatre and moved to its current building in 1975 after a nine year construction period. A major renovation of its technical systems and equipment took place between 2019 and 2021.
The annual Polish Classics Opole Theatre Confrontations festival brings together performers who stage new interpretations of works by traditional Polish playwrights, drawing audiences interested in how these stories can be told in different ways today.
The building sits at Teatralny Square 12 in the city center and is easily accessible on foot. Tickets for performances are available both at the box office and through the online booking system.
One of the stages here is the largest dramatic stage in Poland and was designed to accommodate extensive productions. This size allows for special productions that most other theatres in the country cannot offer.
