Zajazd Pod św. Benedyktem

Zajazd Pod sw. Benedyktem is a two-story inn located near Limanowskiego Street with architectural details mixing Baroque and Classical styles. The cream-colored structure features window frames and decorative moldings typical of the late 1700s.

The inn was built between 1780 and 1798 as lodging for travelers arriving from Lviv to the newly founded city of Josefstadt. It became part of the infrastructure supporting a growing population in this suburb of Kraków.

The building reflects Podgórze's role as a junction where travelers from the east met and shared news. It embodies the connection between Kraków and distant regions that shaped daily life in the district.

On October 31, 1918, Polish soldiers led by Lieutenant Franciszek Pustelnik disarmed Austrian troops at this location, marking the start of Kraków's liberation. The building became a site of local historical importance for the city's freedom.
