St. Martin and St. Nicholas Cathedral, Bydgoszcz

St. Martin and St. Nicholas is a Gothic cathedral in Bydgoszcz built from red brick with pointed arches and buttresses that dominate the city skyline. The interior displays typical features of Polish Gothic architecture with tall vaulted ceilings and ornamental details throughout.

After a fire destroyed the previous wooden church in 1466, a new stone structure was built in its place to protect it from future fires. The building was completed in 1502 after decades of gradual construction.

The cathedral holds a venerated image of Madonna with Rose that takes center stage during processions and special celebrations in the city. This painting carries deep spiritual meaning for the local community.

A striking brass baptismal font dates to 1611 and was commissioned by mayor Wojciech Łochowski for the cathedral. This rare piece showcases the craftsmanship of Renaissance metalworkers and remains an overlooked treasure inside.
