Nowogród Bobrzański

Nowogród Bobrzański is a former settlement whose remains spread across both banks of the Bóbr River, showing traces of homes, workshops, and public structures. The foundations and building elements come from different periods and help visitors understand how the town developed.

The settlement was founded in 1202 as a seat of local rule and received town rights in 1314. It later became part of the Żagań Duchy and played a role in the region's medieval and later history.

The location shows how people lived here for centuries, building homes, streets, and market areas along the river. You can see in the remains how daily life changed over time and how different groups shaped this settlement.

The site spreads across both river banks and is easiest to explore by following the water and moving between the shores. Sturdy footwear is helpful since the ground is uneven and some areas can be damp.

Multiple fires shaped the town across different centuries and left traces in the soil that help archaeologists understand its development. These fires occurred far apart in time, showing how often residents rebuilt and continued living here.
