Jaz Bartoszowice, Water dam in Wrocław, Poland.
Jaz Bartoszowice is a water dam in Wrocław consisting of three spans with two side sections measuring 30 meters and a central section of 40 meters, equipped with segmental closure gates. The structure controls water levels along the river to support navigation through the city and maintain proper flow conditions.
The dam was constructed between 1913 and 1917 as part of a major water management initiative to establish new navigation routes through Wrocław. This project modernized river transport in the city and improved control over water flows.
The structure forms an integral part of local water management traditions, connecting the Bartoszowice district with other sections of water infrastructure.
The dam works in coordination with the Opatowice Dam to regulate water levels and maintain suitable conditions for neighboring locks. Visitors can view the structure from nearby embankments where footpaths provide good access to observe the installation.
The dam's control machinery is housed in a pillar situated near the embankment that separates the flood and navigation channels. This design allows operators to monitor and adjust both channels from a single location.
