Izba Regionalna "Chata Kawuloka" w Istebnej

The Izba Regionalna is a wooden house that displays how people lived in this mountain region during the 1800s. Inside, you can see household items, farming equipment, and traditional musical instruments arranged as they were once used.

The house was built in 1863 as a family residence and stood for more than a century before changing purpose. A local expert who studied regional music and traditional crafts transformed it into a museum in 1964.

The space tells the story of how people in the Beskid Mountains organized their daily lives and valued their crafts and music. Visitors can feel connected to the traditions that shaped this community and understand what mattered most to them.

You need to call ahead to arrange a visit, as the house only opens for booked groups. The location is in a small mountain village, so plan your visit carefully and allow time to explore at a relaxed pace.

The black chamber stands out as the most unusual space, with walls darkened by centuries of smoke from a traditional stove built without a chimney. This method of letting smoke escape naturally through the building created the distinctive dark color you see today.
