Mennonites Etnographic Park in Wielka Nieszawka

Mennonites Etnographic Park in Wielka Nieszawka, Open-air museum in Wielka Nieszawka, Poland.

Description

The Mennonites Etnographic Park in Wielka Nieszawka is an open-air museum with three complete working farms from the Lower Vistula Valley. The site features six historical buildings that together recreate a village from the past.

History

The museum opened in 2018 and documents settlers from the Netherlands and Friesland who had lived in Poland since the 16th century. These Protestant communities fundamentally shaped the landscape and way of life in this region.

Culture

The buildings show how Mennonites lived and worked in this region, with spaces that reflect their crafts and daily routines. Visitors can see how families organized their homes and what tools they used for their labor.

Practical

The park is open from Tuesday through Sunday and closed on Mondays. It is helpful to allow enough time to explore the various buildings and outdoor spaces at a comfortable pace.

Did you know?

The park shows the so-called 'Rzedówka Bagienna', a typical village pattern with long rows of houses designed for bog lands. The drainage channels and fruit trees around the buildings are part of this historical settlement form, which is rarely seen today.
