Dom Pisarzy, Socialist realism house in Śródmieście, Poland.
Dom Pisarzy is a residential building in socialist realism style located in Śródmieście on Marszałkowska Street. The structure features a grey brick facade with concrete elements, cornices, and pilasters as distinctive architectural details.
Construction started in 1959 on the site of the Taubenhaus tenement, destroyed during World War II. The new building represented postwar Warsaw's reconstruction and urban renewal efforts.
The building housed several notable writers, including poet Zbigniew Herbert who lived here from 1971 to 1974, along with authors Julia Hartwig and Artur Międzyrzecki. Their presence connected the place to Warsaw's literary and intellectual circles of that era.
The building underwent renovation and thermal modernization in 2012, improving its condition while preserving the original design. Its location on Marszałkowska Street provides easy access and a central position in the city.
The courtyard contains a wall covered entirely in Virginia creeper, creating a green contrast against the stone facade. An adjacent tenement building still bears visible bullet marks from World War II, serving as silent reminders of the area's wartime destruction.
