Prudnik Castle, Gothic castle remnants at Zamkowy Square, Prudnik, Poland.
Prudnik Castle is a medieval fortress in Prudnik, its only surviving structure being a cylindrical tower built from greywacke stone. The structure rises above its surroundings with thick walls that have endured for centuries.
A Bohemian knight named Wok von Rosenberg founded this fortification in 1255 to control trade routes between Wrocław and Opava. Over the centuries it faced various destructions until a major fire in 1806 destroyed most of the structures.
The remaining tower stands as a testament to medieval construction methods used across the Opole region during that era. It sits today at Zamkowy Square in the heart of the town and shapes the character of the place.
You can visit the tower from Zamkowy Square, where it is now managed by a museum dedicated to the local area. It's helpful to check opening times beforehand, as these are limited to certain seasons.
The year 1806 marked a turning point when fire struck the site with devastating force. The fact that only this single tower survived the disaster makes it a rare survivor from that era.
