Ploty Old Castle, Medieval castle in Płoty, Poland
Ploty Old Castle is a stone fortress in the Polish town of Płoty featuring a four-story defensive tower surrounded by a moat. The preserved defensive walls date from the 13th century and form a substantial part of the structure.
The castle was founded in 1280 by knight Dobieslaw and has shaped the town's history ever since. Following destruction in 1465, it was later rebuilt by the von der Osten family.
The Knights' Hall within the castle contains detailed ceiling decorations and an architectural fireplace, reflecting medieval nobility architectural preferences.
The fortress is located at Zamkowa 2 street and now houses a municipal library and social welfare center. The interior is not open for visits, but you can view the outer structures and fortifications from the outside.
Two castles stand side by side on the same grounds: the Old Castle and the New Castle, forming a double residence complex. This unusual arrangement makes the location architecturally distinctive.
