Al-Jiftlik, village council in Jericho Governorate, Palestine

Al-Jiftlik is a Palestinian village in the Jericho Governorate, 33 km north of Jericho, with its main street cutting the built-up area into an eastern and a western half. The older eastern half stands on raised ground and holds many inhabited mud-brick houses over 50 years old, while the western half has fewer. The village lies along Wadi Far'a near the Jordan River.

Al-Jiftlik's name derives from the Turkish chiflik, an Ottoman term for a farm, estate or land owned by the Sultan, reflecting the village's agricultural character. The Palestinian Rural History Project records its original name as Qarawat al-Mas'udi, after the Bedouin al-Masa'id tribe, whose land once stretched from Damia in Transjordan to the borders of Jericho. Most residents descend from that tribe and from immigrants from Tammun. After the 1948 war the village came under Jordanian rule, and since the 1967 Six-Day War it has been under Israeli occupation; over 800 homes were razed and 6,000 inhabitants ordered to leave, though most returned. Since the 1995 Accords it has been designated Area C.

The village's name comes from the Turkish word chiflik, meaning a farm or estate, given for its agricultural character. Most residents are descendants of the Bedouin al-Masa'id tribe, whose land once stretched from Damia in Transjordan to the edges of Jericho, alongside immigrants from Tammun. The original site name was recorded as Qarawat al-Mas'udi, after that tribe.

Al-Jiftlik is reached by a road running north from Jericho, about 33 kilometers away. The village has no electricity or water infrastructure, and most building permit requests are denied. A local council established in 2005 administers local affairs, and an UNRWA primary school serves 950 students.

The village sits roughly 400 meters below sea level, making it one of the world's lowest settlements and an unusual location for farmland. This extreme depth creates a distinct climate that supports specific crop types.
