Eshtemoa synagogue, Ancient synagogue ruins in as-Samu, Palestine.
The stone structure measures 13.3 by 21.3 meters and features three entrance doors on its eastern side, with the western wall reaching 7 meters high.
Archaeological excavations in 1934 revealed the remains of this fourth-century Jewish synagogue, which was later converted into a mosque during the medieval period.
Four stone-carved menorahs discovered on the door lintels demonstrate the Jewish religious practices and architectural decoration methods of late antiquity Palestine.
The archaeological site stands 15 kilometers south of Hebron, requiring coordination with local authorities and guided tours for access and exploration.
The building remains contain a recess that functioned as a Torah ark, later modified with the addition of a mihrab when the structure changed to Islamic use.
