The Memorial of the Victims of Communism and of the Resistance occupies a former prison building where cells now serve as exhibition spaces. The rooms document political persecution and the experiences of those imprisoned during the communist era.

This site operated as a high-security prison from 1950 to 1955, confining politicians and journalists who opposed the regime. It later became a memorial to preserve the memory of those detained and to document communist-era repression.

The museum displays personal belongings, handwritten letters, and photographs from prisoners that reveal how ordinary people endured state oppression. These objects help visitors connect with individual stories rather than just historical facts.

Plan enough time to properly explore the multiple floors and numerous personal testimonies on display. Exhibits are labeled in several languages to help all visitors understand the content.

The prison was deliberately built in one of the country's most isolated locations to prevent outside visits and escape attempts. This remoteness was a deliberate part of the overall strategy to control information about the facility.
