Cefa Natural Park, Protected natural area at western limit of Bihor County, Romania.
Cefa Natural Park is a protected wetland area in the western part of Bihor County near the Hungarian border, covering approximately 5,000 hectares. The landscape combines swamps, drainage channels, floodplains, forest patches, and grasslands into a unified habitat system.
The park received official protection status through government decision in 2010 to safeguard regional biodiversity. This designation recognized the importance of the wetlands as a habitat for rare species in the area.
The communities near the park have left traces of their presence through religious buildings and settlement sites that reflect how people have long lived alongside these wetlands. These signs show the connection between local inhabitants and the natural landscape around them.
Access comes through National Road DN79 connecting the two main towns, then follow county road DJ797 to reach the park entrance. The best time to visit is during bird migration periods when the largest variety of species is present in the area.
The site functions as a crucial stopover point on the migratory route between the Pannonian region and Bulgaria for traveling birds. The rare Eastern imperial eagle regularly passes through these wetlands during migration, making it an important location for bird watchers.
