Construction of the church began in 1720 and finished in 1741, serving as the episcopal cathedral until the completion of the Basilica in 1779.
The ceiling frescoes, painted by Gyula Turz in 1908, depict various scenes from King Ladislaus's life and the construction of Oradea's first cathedral.
The church maintains regular mass schedules and welcomes visitors to explore its historical features, including the oldest altar in Oradea, in use since 1730.
In May 1964, local residents formed a human chain around the church to prevent its demolition, successfully preserving this historical structure.
