Sremska Mitrovica Municipality

Sremska Mitrovica Municipality is an administrative area in the Srem District that stretches along the left bank of the Sava River, combining urban zones and agricultural land. The territory mixes developed areas with open countryside that shapes the character of the region.

The area was once home to Sirmium, which served as one of the four capitals of the Roman Empire around 293 CE during the tetrarchy period. Roman remains demonstrate the strategic importance of the location in the ancient world.
