Beograđanka, High-rise building in Savski Venac, Belgrade, Serbia.
Beograđanka is a 24-story high-rise in Savski Venac with a trapezoidal shape clad in dark aluminum and glass that stands out in Belgrade's urban landscape. The structure rises to about 101 meters and functions as a mixed-use building combining office and commercial spaces within the city center.
Construction began in 1969 under mayor Branko Pešić and was completed in 1974, making it the first structure in Yugoslavia to exceed 100 meters in height at that time. Archaeological discoveries during the initial building work revealed artifacts beneath the foundation, marking layers of history at this urban site.
Locals affectionately call this building "The Belgrade Lady," giving it a personal connection that extends beyond its function as an office tower. The lobby displays works by Serbian artists, contributing to how people experience and think about this urban landmark.
The building sits in a central location within the city and is easily accessible on foot from nearby attractions in the area. Following extensive renovations that began in 2021, it now features improved facilities and better access to its various office and commercial sections.
During renovation after 2021, the architectural lines were modernized while preserving the original trapezoidal silhouette, creating an interesting dialogue between past and present. This balance between maintaining its distinctive shape and updating its appearance makes it a snapshot of Belgrade's evolving urban identity.
