Novo Brdo Municipality

Novo Brdo Municipality is an administrative region in the Prishtina District that encompasses mountainous terrain rich with deposits of silver, gold, and lead. Bostane serves as the administrative center from which the municipality is governed.

The region emerged during medieval times as a major mining center in the Balkans, reaching its peak as an important production hub. Later developments transformed it into an administratively organized area that continues to the present day.

The municipality integrated Saxon miners, Albanian workers, and Ragusan merchants, forming a multicultural society with Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches.

A visit works best during warmer months, though the mountainous area remains accessible year-round. Bring proper footwear since the terrain and pathways can be uneven in places.

The fortress features an Upper Town with eight towers and a Lower Town, surrounded by dry moats that demonstrate advanced medieval defensive architecture.
