Prilepac

Prilepac is a medieval stone fortress built on a hilltop with commanding views over the surrounding valleys. The structure consists of defensive walls and towers that rise from the mountainous terrain near Gjilan.

The fortress was built during the medieval period as a stronghold in the region. It is closely connected to Prince Lazar, a ruler whose power shaped the surrounding lands.

The site contains remains of a medieval church that show how religious and defensive architecture were combined in this region. Walking through, you can see how the space was organized to serve both spiritual and protective purposes.

The ruins are located on a mountainside and can be reached via a mountain road and walking paths. It is best to wear sturdy shoes since the terrain is steep and uneven in places.

Archaeological artifacts such as old weapons and pottery continue to be found on the site, emerging from the soil when the ground is disturbed. These discoveries reveal layers of history beneath what visitors see on the surface.
