Tower of Vrdnik

The Tower of Vrdnik is a cylindrical stone structure with oval-shaped walls that rises approximately 20 meters high. Openings in the walls allow visitors to see inside and understand how the structure was built to serve its defensive purpose.

The tower's foundations were established in ancient times under Roman Emperor Probus, with medieval fortifications added during the Hungarian Kingdom period. This layering of construction reflects how the site remained strategically important across different eras.

The tower served as a landmark that helped define territorial boundaries for communities in the region. Visitors can see how its position on the hillside made it central to controlling movement through the valley below.

The tower is reached via a marked mountain path that winds through surrounding forest and involves a steady climb. Wearing sturdy shoes and allowing time for the hike are important since the trail goes through woodlands.

The oval shape of this 14th-century tower is uncommon for defensive structures of that period. From the top, visitors find views of three small creeks that converge at the base of the hill.
