Repino, Coastal village in Kurortny District, Saint Petersburg, Russia
Repino is a coastal village in the Kurortny District stretching along the Gulf of Finland north of Saint Petersburg. The settlement features traditional wooden houses set among gardens and natural terrain that slopes gently toward the shoreline.
The village was originally named Kuokkala when it belonged to Finland until the Soviet invasion of 1939-1940 brought it under Russian control. The settlement was then incorporated into the Soviet system and renamed as part of the territorial changes that followed.
The Penaty estate, once home to painter Ilya Repin, now displays his artworks and personal objects as a museum open to visitors. The location remains tied to the artist's creative practice and how he lived alongside his family in this coastal setting.
Visitors can reach the village by regular train service departing from Saint Petersburg, with the journey taking approximately forty minutes. The train station is centrally located, making it easy to access the main attractions and the waterfront area.
The England national football team selected this village as their training base during the 2022 World Cup tournament. This choice brought international attention to the location and made it known to sports enthusiasts from around the globe.
