Shchuchie Lake

Shchuchie Lake is a protected body of water in northern Saint Petersburg surrounded by forest vegetation and sandy shores. Walking paths allow visitors to explore parts of the shoreline while much of the environment remains in its natural state.

The lake was designated as a protected area during the mid-20th century when Saint Petersburg began strengthening its environmental conservation efforts. This decision helped preserve the local ecosystem from damage caused by urban expansion.

The lake is accessible through several walking paths that loop around different sections of the shoreline. Parking areas are located near entry points, and the best time to visit is during warmer months when the weather is pleasant.

The lake holds a less restrictive protection status that still safeguards plants and wildlife while allowing some human activity and exploration. This approach balances conservation with reasonable public access, making it different from strictly closed nature reserves.
