List of Moscow Kremlin towers, Medieval fortification towers in Moscow, Russia

The Kremlin towers are 20 defensive structures built in stone and placed along the fortress walls to provide military protection. They feature different shapes: some are square while others are round, and each tower had its own role in the defense system.

Italian architects built these towers between 1485 and 1495 as part of a complete reconstruction of the Kremlin. They replaced older wooden structures from the 1100s that no longer provided adequate protection.

The Spasskaya Tower serves as the main entrance to the Kremlin and features a large clock that plays a role during important national ceremonies and celebrations. The towers shape how the old Moscow city looks and are places where history shows itself in the urban landscape.

You can see 19 towers from the main walls, while the Kutafya Tower stands outside the main complex and offers a separate viewpoint. The best way to discover all of them is to walk around the walls, with each side offering different perspectives.

Each tower had underground passages and wells that provided water and escape routes during a siege. These hidden systems show how carefully the Kremlin's defense was planned.
