Национальный парк "Смоленское Поозерье"

Smolenskoe Poozerje National Park spans mixed forests, wetlands, and rivers with approximately 35 glacial lakes across two districts in western Russia. The park forms a significant portion of the Western Dvina river basin.

The landscape took shape during the Valdai glaciation when ice carved hills and ravines, with meltwater filling depressions to form the present-day lakes. This ancient geological process left the terrain we see today.

Local communities here practice traditional fishing and farming methods that have shaped the land for generations. Visitors can see how people and nature coexist in this region through both working landscapes and education centers.

Marked ecological trails guide visitors through the park, offering chances to see European bison in their natural setting. Visitor centers provide guided tours to help explore the area safely and learn about its features.

Lake Chistik stands out for its exceptional water clarity, allowing visibility down to about 6 meters into its depths. This transparency makes it a special place for observing aquatic life.
