Kinoteatr Zvezda, Movie theater in Tver, Russia.
Kinoteatr Zvezda is a movie theater in Tver housed in a symmetrical building from the 1930s with decorative facade details typical of Soviet public architecture. It has several screening rooms fitted with modern projection equipment and seating for several hundred viewers.
The building was designed by architect Viktor Kalmykov in 1935 and was among the first structures in the Tver region built specifically for cinema. It was constructed at a time when Soviet urban planning gave special attention to cinema as a public institution.
The name Zvezda means "star" in Russian, which fits naturally for a cinema. Locals still treat the building as a neighborhood landmark and meet there before or after screenings, as they have done for generations.
The theater sits in central Tver and is easy to reach on foot or by public transport from most parts of the city. Arriving a little early gives you time to look at the facade before the screening starts.
The building is listed as a regional cultural heritage site, which means its exterior cannot be substantially altered. This explains why the facade looks almost the same as it did when the theater first opened in 1935.
