Zolotoy Kolos Fountain

Zolotoy Kolos is a monumental water feature at the VDNKh Exhibition Centre with golden wheat ears rising from a central basin. Water jets spray outward in circular patterns around the grain sculptures that form the heart of the composition.

This fountain was built in 1954 as a monument celebrating agricultural production during the Soviet era. It became one of several major water features created at the exhibition center to highlight farming and industry achievements.

The golden wheat ears at the center express how farming shaped the daily lives and values of people here. Visitors can see the grain sculptures as symbols of a connection to the land that was central to the community.

The fountain runs daily from April through October when weather permits the water system to operate safely. Walking in from the VDNKh metro station, visitors pass through the main exhibition entrance to reach it.

The water jets are arranged to create precise geometric patterns representing different grain types rather than spraying randomly. This deliberate choreography of the water shows the engineering precision that went into planning even decorative fountains.
