Kudrovo, Residential district near Saint Petersburg, Russia
Kudrovo is a residential area in Zanevskoye urban settlement, east of the Saint Petersburg city limit. Multi-story apartment blocks line wide streets, broken by green spaces and recently opened shops.
Until a few years ago, this was a small village with about one hundred residents, then large housing projects began changing the landscape. Since the early twenties of this century, the population grew to over ninety thousand people.
Residents of this young suburb commute daily to the neighboring metropolis for work and use the local shopping centers in the evening. Life here follows a suburban rhythm with playgrounds between the residential blocks and new schools for the many families with children.
Buses run regularly to Ulitsa Dybenko metro station less than one kilometer away, which offers a direct connection to central Saint Petersburg. Visitors should avoid rush hours in the morning and evening when commuters use public transport.
The name Kudrovo comes from an old Russian word for curly hair, probably describing the winding shape of the river or vegetation in this area. Today, little remains to recall the rural past, as construction sites for more apartment blocks continue shaping the townscape.
