The Krasny Bor Forest spans 2.9 hectares near Petrozavodsk, featuring numerous wooden crosses and granite stones marking burial locations within the forest grounds.
Investigations in 1997 revealed this location as an execution site where NKVD forces eliminated 1,193 individuals between August 1937 and October 1938.
Regular memorial ceremonies at Krasny Bor Forest include the annual Day of Remembrance on October 30, continuing the tradition of honoring political persecution victims.
The memorial site requires private transportation to access, located 19 kilometers along Petrozavodsk-Voznesenye Highway with walking paths through the forest grounds.
Historian Yury Dmitriev's research established an archive containing over 14,000 names of individuals who perished during the Great Terror in Karelia.
