Boblovo, Historical museum-estate in Klinsky District, Russia
Boblovo is a country estate museum in Klinsky District, Moscow Oblast, dedicated to the Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev. The property consists of several historic buildings, including a residential house and a laboratory, set within a landscaped park.
Mendeleev purchased the estate in 1865 and used it as a summer home and a place to carry out scientific experiments. After his death in 1907, the property was eventually turned into a museum dedicated to his life and work.
Boblovo is closely tied to Dmitri Mendeleev, the chemist who created the periodic table of elements. Visitors can walk through his study, which is arranged to look as it did during his lifetime.
The museum sits in a village outside Klin and is easiest to reach by private car, as public transport connections are limited. Nearly all labels and information on site are in Russian only, so it helps to prepare in advance.
Mendeleev was also a keen balloonist and in 1887 made a solo ascent from near Boblovo to observe a solar eclipse. This flight is still remembered locally and forms part of the story told at the estate.
