Svobody Square, station du métro de Nijni Novgorod
Svobody Square is a planned metro station in central Nizhny Novgorod scheduled to open around 2026 as part of the Avtozavodskaya line. It will be located adjacent to Sennaya station and connected to the broader metro network, improving underground transit access across the city.
The Nizhny Novgorod metro system began construction in 1977 and initially served workers from local factories, especially in the industrial district. This station was added later to connect the historic city center to the expanding network.
The square takes its name from freedom and serves as a gathering place where locals conduct their daily routines. When the station opens, it will become a meeting point connecting residents from different parts of the city.
The station will feature a contactless payment system and clear signage in Russian and English for easy navigation. Wide platforms and stairways with escalators will connect smoothly between street level and the train level.
The station will feature mosaics and colored tiles depicting scenes from the city's history, particularly its shipbuilding heritage. These artistic elements will reflect Nizhny Novgorod's connection to its trading and maritime past.
