Елецкий Троицкий монастырь, Orthodox monastery in Yelets, Russia.
Eletsky Troitsky Monastery is a Russian Orthodox monastic complex in Yelets, situated on Koshkina Hill overlooking the city. The grounds hold several white stone churches, a bell tower, monks' quarters, and an enclosing wall that defines a central courtyard.
The monastery was founded in 1501 and grew into a significant religious center for the region over the following centuries. A fire in 1769 destroyed most of the buildings, after which the complex was rebuilt in its current form.
The monastery is a living place of Russian Orthodox worship, where services follow the same rhythm they have for centuries. Visitors who arrive in the morning or evening can observe the community gathered in prayer inside the white-walled churches.
The monastery is accessible through its main gate and can be visited during daylight hours on most days. As an active religious site, visitors are expected to dress modestly and move quietly through the grounds.
When the fire of 1769 swept through the complex, two elderly nuns refused to leave and continued praying among the ruins. Their resolve is said to have convinced the community to rebuild rather than abandon the site.
