Lutic Fortress is an ancient stronghold situated on the left bank of the Mertvy Donets River. It features pentagonal towers positioned at each corner and defensive walls that measure approximately 40 meters on each side, creating a solid geometric structure.
This stronghold was built in 1660 at the order of the Crimean Khan to defend the Don delta region. Russian forces captured it in 1696, marking a significant shift in control of this strategic territory.
The fortress brought together people from many different lands who lived and worked within its walls. Workers and soldiers from Turkish, Tatar, Hungarian, Wallachian, and Russian backgrounds shared this space and its daily rhythms.
