Острий
Ostriy is a fortified settlement with origins in the ancient Krivichi period, situated in a wooded area near the Velikaya River surrounded by fields and small villages. The site displays archaeological remains of old structures, pottery and tools, while a two-story building resembling a chapel stands on the mound offering views across the landscape.
The site was founded by the Krivichi people and served as an important defense and administrative center during the Novgorod period with trade routes and possible religious structures. A wooden Church of Saint George was later built but was destroyed during warfare and never restored.
The site reflects the Krivichi culture through its preserved ancient mound and the remains of a wooden church dedicated to Saint George that once stood here. Today, visitors can observe how religious traditions shaped this settlement and the role it played in the spiritual life of the local population.
