Усадьба Самсонова, Federal heritage estate in Khamovniki District, Russia
The Samsonov Estate sits on Prechistenka Street with a columned classical facade built upon stone foundations from the 18th century. The main structure was completed in the early 19th century following damage from the great fire of 1812.
The estate was rebuilt between 1813 and 1817 after a fire destroyed the previous structure during the 1812 military invasion and occupation. This rebuilding was part of Moscow's broader recovery from wartime destruction.
The interior preserves its original early 19th-century staircase, decorative heating stoves, and sections of the dance hall where residents once gathered for social events. These spaces show how Moscow's wealthy families arranged their homes during this era.
The estate sits along a well-known street in central Moscow and is easy to spot from its prominent columned facade. Visitors should allow time to walk around and view the building's exterior details from different angles.
Previous owner Nikolai von Meck acquired the estate in 1911 and was an innovative railway engineer who developed transportation advances. His entrepreneurial vision influenced Moscow's industrial development before his life changed dramatically in the 1920s.
