Морозовская богадельня

The Morozov Almshouse is a red brick building featuring neo-Byzantine architectural elements with ornately designed window frames and decorative cornices throughout its exterior. The structure displays both crafted details and decorative features that characterize its interior and exterior appearance.

The building was founded in 1891 by merchant Alexei Morozov to shelter and care for elderly and disabled residents of Moscow through the Soviet era. Its purpose changed during the Soviet period when it was converted for medical use.

The building reflects the generosity of Russian merchants during the late 1800s and incorporates traditional Orthodox design elements throughout its facade.

The building sits on Shelaputinsky Lane and is reachable from Taganskaya metro station by heading northeast on foot. Visitors should allow time to view the architectural details from the outside, as the structure is protected as a heritage site.

The building housed a maternity hospital during the Soviet period and maintained its social purpose across several decades. This transformation shows how historical structures adapted their function to meet new social needs.
