Former Hotel Belvedere in Vyborg

The Former Hotel Belvedere stands at the intersection of Leningradsky Prospekt and Naberezhnaya Sorokaletiya VLKSM, built in late 19th-century style with stone construction. The building preserves its original structure and spatial layout, contributing to the historic character of this part of Vyborg.

Finnish architect Fredrik August Odenwall designed this structure in 1879 during his tenure as Vyborg's city architect from 1868 to 1884. The stone construction survived the Winter War, unlike many of his wooden buildings elsewhere in the city.

The building shows the architectural transition period in Vyborg after the city removed old fortifications and began expanding. Its street-facing facade reflects the late 19th-century aesthetic that shaped the growing urban landscape at that time.

The building is visible and easily accessible from the central area of Vyborg. As a protected heritage site, interior access may be limited, so checking before your visit is recommended.

This stone building is one of about 175 designs by Odenwall that survive in Vyborg, notable for its solid construction. While the Winter War destroyed many of his wooden works, this particular structure endured because of its substantial masonry.
