Monument to the Don Cossacks

The monument was conceived in 1956 during preparations for an exhibition marking the 40th anniversary of the October Revolution in the Soviet Union. Its creation reflected the era's focus on commemorating military and revolutionary heritage across the country.

The statue is linked by local people to Grigory Melechov, the main character from Mikhail Sholokhov's novel 'And Quiet Flows the Don'. This connection to literature makes the site meaningful for those familiar with the region's cultural identity.

The monument is situated along the R271 highway connecting Millerovo to Vyoshenskaya near the settlement of Kruzhilinskiy in Rostov Oblast. It stands close to the roadway and is easily visible when passing through the area.

The statue stands atop an artificial earthen mound rising approximately 8 meters high, which significantly increases its overall visual impact. A memorial stone bearing an inscription in Russian provides historical context for visitors encountering the monument.
