Korea–Russia Friendship Bridge, Railway bridge and border checkpoint at Tumen River between Russia and North Korea.
The Korea-Russia Friendship Bridge is a railway bridge spanning the Tumen River, connecting Khasan station in Russia with Tumangang station in North Korea. It measures about 623 meters long and features dual gauge tracks to accommodate both railway systems.
The bridge opened in 1959 and replaced an older wooden structure that stood at the site before. It marked the establishment of a permanent transportation link between the two neighboring countries.
The bridge represents the only direct land link between the two countries and shapes how the border region functions as a place of exchange. People and goods pass through it daily, making it a visible symbol of connection.
The crossing has two different track gauges, one for each country, so trains can pass without changing rails. Keep in mind that border procedures are strict and access is tightly controlled.
In 2017, fiber optic cables were laid across the bridge, providing North Korea with an additional internet connection through Russia's TransTelekom network. This connection represented a rare technological partnership between the two nations.
