Granovsky House Museum, Museu em Oriol, Rússia
The Granovsky House Museum is a wooden residential building in Oryol constructed in the late 1700s on a stone foundation. Its interior contains period furnishings and personal objects arranged in rooms that reflect how the family lived, with simple wooden structures and original architectural details preserved throughout.
The house was purchased by Anna Alekseevna Granovskaya in 1797, and her husband Timofei Efimovich acquired the remaining portion of the estate in 1812. Following the October Revolution, the building served different purposes until it was converted into a museum dedicated to local writers in 1957.
The house carries a white marble plaque marking where the historian Granovsky was born, serving as a reminder of his importance. Inside, displays focus on local intellectual circles and show how this house fits into the broader story of Russian scholarly life.
The museum is located on 7 November Street in Oryol and is easily accessible on foot or by public transport. The house is small and can be explored comfortably in a short visit, with guided tours available to enhance your understanding of the exhibits.
The museum houses the memorial library of P. V. Kirievsky, a collector of folk songs, featuring books from the 18th and early 19th centuries in Russian and European languages. This rare collection offers insight into the early days of Russian folk research and how traditional stories and songs were preserved.
