Красный мост, Steel bridge in central Oryol, Russia
The Krasny Bridge spans the Oka River, connecting Gostinaya Street on the left bank with Moskovskaya Street on the right bank. Following the 2023 reconstruction, it features wider pedestrian walkways, expanded vehicle lanes, and modernized trackless tram infrastructure.
Built in 1879 as the Mariinsky Bridge, it was destroyed during World War II in 1943 and reconstructed in 1950 with new support spans.
The bridge took its current name Krasny, meaning Red, following the social upheaval of the Russian Revolution. This naming reflects the political transformation that reshaped the country.
The bridge is easily accessible for pedestrians and vehicles, connecting two main streets in the city. The well-paved surface and clear layout make crossing straightforward.
The original bridge decorations included cast iron columns and lanterns made at the renowned San Galli factory in Saint Petersburg. These fine details show the craftsmanship typical of 19th-century engineering.
